Happy National Pancake Day

Happy National Pancake Day - Kortni Jeane
National Pancake Day happens twice a year and we’re here for it! 🥞 There’s nothing quite like a stack of fluffy pancakes with butter and syrupy goodness on top. Today we’re coming at you with five pancakes you can serve to impress your kids and five pancake recipes to step up your pancake game. We hope one of these ideas helps you to celebrate National Pancake Day worry-free.
The Food Network has lots of animal shapes that you can make with your kids on National Pancake Day. For a pancake lion, you’ll need 1 large pancake, 1 small pancake, and 2 very small pancakes to make the face. For the ears, you’ll need a third very small pancake (cut in half with nutella or hazelnut spread. To make the mane, you’ll need 16 slices of strawberry, lengthwise, and use two banana slices, nuts, and blueberries for the eyes. Last but not least, throw in 1 large raspberry for a red nose!
Our second favorite shape from the Food Network is this Snow Monkey, and he’s a lot easier to build than the lion. All you need to make this monkey is 1 large pancake, 1 medium pancake, 2 small pancakes, powdered sugar, and whipped cream cheese for the face + ears. For the eyes and nose use 2 banana slices, 4 raisins, and your choice of chocolate sauce. This is a great option if you’re making it on the fly and don’t have other berries available.
Betty Crocker had the right idea celebrating Halloween in March! Celebrate National Pancake Day like we would here at Kortni Jeane with ghost pancakes! The trick is to make three half-inch drops of dark batter about 1.5 inches apart, forming the eyes and mouth of your ghost. Cook these drops for about 30 seconds before pouring ¼ cup of regular batter over the eyes and mouth + make the shape of a ghost. Then cook your ghost pancake as you would any other pancake. You and your littles will love it!
If you want to get fancy on National Pancake day with minimal effort, invest in pancake molds and shapers! From rainbows + stars to Star Wars + Harry Potter molds, Williams-Sonoma has fun molds + shapers to choose from, all under $20. That way you can use your favorite batter recipe and impress your kiddos with these fun shapes. We even spotted Mickey Mouse pancake molds in their lineup for our fellow Disney fans!
If you’re ready to get your creative juices flowing, it’s time to take up pancake art! All you have to do is separate your batter, add whatever gel food colors you want to each batch, and throw the batter into drip bottles or piping bags. From there, it’s all up to you! You can make animals, cartoon characters, fancy hearts, or even other foods with pancake art, and with the colors of your choosing! Check out Anna Bailey’s guide to unicorn pancakes as pictured above if you’re anything like us + lovers of all things unicorn! You can also find more pancake art ideas via Pinterest so don’t hold back if there’s a shape or picture you want to try!
