The Ultimate Guide to Swimming this Winter
Raise your hand if winter is in full force where you live. 🌨 That doesn’t stop us! We know the kids are BEGGING to go swimming year round because it’s one of their favorite activities. We also know that not all of us have an amazing tropical vacation planned in the near future. So, why not get creative with it? We’re sharing our best tips for where, when, and how to swim all winter long.
1. Hot tubs
You guessed it! The easiest way to mix up your winter activities is a nice soak in the hot tub. Perhaps you’re lucky enough to own a hot tub of your own, or perhaps you have neighbors you can call up for the adventure? If neither of those are an option, we suggest calling a local hotel, recreation center, or pool to ask prices for a day pass. Some of the best conversations with friends and family happen when relaxing in the hot tub. It's a fact!
2. BIG towels
It’s all fun and games until you have to get out of the pool. Only then do you realize how cold it really is! Packing a huge towel to wrap up in is a must! Our round towels are fit for the occasion! They measure 5 feet all around, which is quite a bit larger than any regular towel. It’s like wrapping yourself in a big blanket! Swimming in the winter just got a lot more comfortable! Goosebumps be gone!
3. Plan a staycation
If you’re up for a little extra, plan an overnighter at a local hotel. This is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of indoor swimming, hot tubbing, and snuggling up in those cozy hotel robes that we all need in our life. For a bonus opportunity, many hotels feature indoor + outdoor pools connected by a small opening that you swim under. If you’re up for the adventure, swimming outside into the snowy weather is a magical experience. If snow is in the forecast, this is a must!
4. Check out your local rec. center
One of the cheapest and most convenient options for swimming year-round is getting a local rec. center pass. The best part? Passes often include extra activities such as events for the whole family, gym passes, and sports facility rentals. This is the perfect option to get the kids out of the house in the winter and moving around without having to deal with the snow.
5. Coverage
We can’t be the only ones who feel uncomfortable swimming in the middle of winter because we haven’t shaved in weeks and we don’t have our summer tan. 🙈 If you’re in the same boat, we’ve got options for you! Our Wrap-Top Rashguard offers full coverage up top with long sleeves and the option to wear it two ways. Whether you’re hoping for high neck coverage or a way to winterize your favorite swimsuit, the Wrap-Top Rashguard is your go-to. Wear it forward or backwards and viola! You’ve got yourself the coverup you’ve always dreamed of.
Now for the legs. Our solution: the High-Waisted Skirt. The high-waist fit flatters your figure while the skirt hits about mid-thigh. So there's no need to worry about your legs! If this is a step you need to take to own your body during the Winter, DO IT! We've got more on that below, so keep reading. In all, you won't regret taking a chance on this skirt!
6. Hot springs
These naturally occurring springs create the opportunity for an unforgettable winter swimming experience. You can find a variety of hot springs to visit, whether they’re in the middle of the mountains or at a popular resort. They’re especially common on the West Coast. The best way to make your trip as comfortable as possible is to bring a large towel to dry off, wear clothes that are loose fitting and easy to slip on and off, and wear a beanie to keep your head warm. And to top it off, pack some hot cocoa!
7. Self-Love
Our last tip for you is simple, but don't you forget it! There's no such thing as a "winter body" or a "summer body." You body is yours to love ALL YEAR LONG! It's constantly changing and if you need a reminder, that's OK. 💗 Swimming in the winter isn't scary when you learn to embrace your body year round. If you need a little extra this year, read "A Love Letter to Your Body This Holiday Season." It's time to get rid of the stigma of being embarrassed about your "winter body" for good.
Did this spark some ideas in your mind? We know we're dying to hit up some local hot springs now! We love seeing how you all get creative with your swimmers during the winter.
