Happy make a friend day! 👯♀️ Every year on February 11th, we look forward to celebrating friendships and even finding new ones! This year we’re looking at four ways we can make friends, especially when we’re feeling a little more introverted or nervous about being social. It’s not always easy to be yourself and start small, but with these approaches, you’ll make a new friend in no time!
REMEMBER OTHERS ARE LOOKING TOO!
You’re not alone in wanting to interact with others and create new friendships. If you start by simply remembering that others are also looking for friends, it’ll be much easier to act accordingly. You’ll find others who are just as motivated to find new friendships as you are, and they will be more than happy to meet you halfway! Act like a friend right from the beginning in any new relationship and you’ll definitely find a last friend or two.
START ONLINE, BUT DON’T STAY THERE
Some of our closest friends were found on Instagram! It’s never been easier to find others who share your interests and enthusiasm on social media or other forums/sites you're a part of. The trick is making arrangements for real-life meetups but being safe by meeting in public places. Once you get to know this new person better, a safety-conscious approach may longer be necessary and you can enjoy a friendship that is deep, lasting, and rewarding.
BRING OLD FRIENDSHIPS BACK TO LIFE
One of our favorite ways to find friends is by reaching out to people who were nice to us in the past. Sometimes life gets busy, and that’s why many potential relationships never move past acquaintances. The good news is that old friendships can be brought back to life! Whether you reach out over social media, phone, or through shared friends, try to set up a lunch or activity for lasting friendships.
TAKE CARE OF YOUR SOCIAL ENERGY
We all need time to recharge and refresh, which is hard to do when we’re in social situations and looking for new friends. As you’re searching for new friendships, avoid seeking out friends constantly just because you’re feeling lonely and wasting your energy on people you don’t have much in common with. Instead, find two or three new friends who will really enrich your life. Invest your time and energy wisely as you’re starting to make new friends.
Interacting with new people is awesome, even if you’re more introverted or feeling nervous. Our hope is that you join us in celebrating make a friend day by putting yourself out there and finding new people to socialize with. Remember that other people need your friendship and that new, long-lasting friends can be found anywhere – as long as they fill your cup!
