The cold weather doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, but that won’t stop us from sporting our swimmers! Our motto here at Kortni Jeane is that there is ALWAYS an excuse to put on a swimsuit. During the winter months, we’re huge fans of cold plunging and are especially interested in the benefits (you know, outside of wearing our KJ swimmers). Take a peek at the other benefits of cold plunging and why we’re sporting our swimsuits in the icy cold water.

IMPROVES MENTAL HEALTH
There’s something about immersing yourself in cold water that has a positive effect on mental health, and we’re here for it! When your skin hits the cold water, your body immediately releases endorphins, which as we all know are mood boosters. But did you know that endorphins are also painkillers? Not only will you feel numb to the cold immediately after plunging, but you’ll also see a reduction in stress, anxiety, and depression which leads to an overall improvement in mental well-being. So if you’re feeling stressed about summer not being here, take the opportunity to do a cold plunge and see how you feel afterward!
NOURISHES SKIN + HAIR
You read that and didn’t believe us, huh? Well according to health experts, cold water exposure reduces the size of skin pores and even tightens the skin. Sounds good so far, doesn’t it? But that’s not all, cold water discourages skin pores from “opening up” and releasing oils. That kind of accumulation of oils is crucial for keeping skin and hair moisturized. Lastly, cold-water immersion benefits hair follicles, giving us longer and thicker hair. We’re always looking for natural and healthy ways to keep our skin and hair looking lively and fresh, so cold plunges here we come!

BOOSTS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM
Raise of hands for anyone who doesn’t like being sick! We’re not saying cold plunging is the cure-all for every common cold or fever. But we are saying that cold exposure leads to a better immune system, which can prevent you from getting sick more often. It’ll help the body fight infections by producing a stronger anti-inflammatory response. Even showering with cold water can produce higher white blood cell counts, which enhances the body’s antibody and t-cell response.
IMPROVES LUNG FUNCTION
If you’ve ever had a cough that just won’t go away, try a cold plunge! When you first enter the icy cold water, you’ll experience a feeling of breathlessness (which is uncomfortable) but it’s good for you. This means the lungs are working harder to regulate the nervous system and leads to an improvement in lung function when we take a dip in cold water. Even someone from our very own KJ team has experienced this first-hand. She went into a cold plunge with a lingering cough of four weeks and left without a single cough. Talk about amazing!
.
INCREASES ENERGY
We know you have a million things on your to-do list, so get the energy you need to finish all of it with a cold plunge! When you expose your body to cold water, it stimulates the nerve endings in the skin. As a result, oxygen levels, heart rate, and respiration rate all increase. This leads to higher energy levels and alertness in your body and mind.

There you have it. Some of our favorite benefits of cold plunges, cold showers, and any other form of cold water immersion. These aren’t all the benefits, but they’re definitely the ones we look forward to the most. So whether you’re an athlete looking to enhance your physical performance or just like us looking to improve your health while wearing a KJ swimmer, cold plunges are the way to go. Have you ever been cold plunging? What did you think? Let us know in the comments!
